Cars in Germany's Town Found Covered with Swastikas in Human Blood, Police Report

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Police
Officers reported they were alerted by a man who found a vehicle in Hanau smeared with reddish liquid

Around fifty automobiles have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by police.

Automobiles, walls and postal boxes were marked, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they reported in a release.

Law enforcement state they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a man discovered that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued fluid.

The fluid had been placed in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they reported.

Officers then discovered numerous other marked vehicles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.

These symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.

Officials say preliminary tests suggest the liquid was likely blood from a person.

"At present there remains no clue as to where it came from; officials are presently not aware of any physical harm in connection with the event," they added.

City officials announced they were attempting "to solve the case" and have appealed to the public for details.

A senior political figure said the incident made him without words and needed to be addressed promptly.

"This incident affects the center of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the extremist attack in 2020," he stated on a platform, referring to the murder of nine individuals by a gunman aiming at individuals of immigrant origin in February 2020.
